Assessment
When we think of assessment in schools, we often picture children taking tests, such as SATs, with these used as a tool to measure and place children on a finite scale. At Bradfield, assessment is so much more than this - it is one of the most important foundations of our curriculum and encompasses a wide range of techniques and routines that contribute to an excellent, personalised educational experience for our children.
What does assessment look like at Bradfield?
All assessment in our school is purposeful, and is summed up by the phrase "We only assess what we plan to address..." This means that every method of assessment is used to identify gaps in children's knowledge, understanding and skills, and to then close those gaps with specifically planned learning opportunities. Crucially, formal testing is kept to an absolute minimum, and much of the day-to-day assessment that takes place does so in conjunction with the children, as part of our well-established and consistent classroom routines. As a result, children feel supported, empowered and highly motivated in their learning.
